Week 2: Sewing Curves

Sewing the curves is not difficult but there are some things to keep in mind that will make your piecing successful. We’re concentrating on just the curves this week – sewing the petal to the large background arc and then sewing the small background arc to the opposite side. We’ll tackle the rest of the cutting and sewing next week.

First and foremost, the most important part of sewing is how you sew onto the curve and how you sew off the curve. Pinning these places, making sure you have an accurate 1/4″ seam allowance, is the key to success. Muscle memory will kick in quickly and you’ll be sewing them perfectly before you know it.

More tips and hints are in this week’s video, so be sure to watch that. The link is below.

Weekly Video Tutorials

To see this week’s video with more details about sewing the curves, click here. You can subscribe to our YouTube channel to get notifications every time we post a new tutorial.

The tutorials focus on the scrappy version but if you’re doing one of the other versions, the information is the same, you’ll just have to pay more attention to fabric placement. For the bordered version, determine your fabrics and follow the pattern. For the checkerboard version, it’s a good idea to make a mock up using the coloring sheet found on the Facebook group. Look at the top of the page under the Featured tab to find a link.
