Welcome to Week 5 of the Newport Sails Quilt Along! This is our last week so it’s all about finishing!
This has been a fun quilt along. We have enjoyed seeing everyone’s fabrics – of course! – and progress. Now it’ time to finish up!
Even though the QAL is over, you can continue to post pictures of your fleet as you finish up on Instagram using the hashtag #NewportSailsQAL2021. We can’t wait to see how your finished quilts turn out!
Week 5: Finishing
Now that all the blocks have been made, assembly is a breeze. We find the there is no reason to pin in order to get those waves to line up, but if you’re a pinner by nature, go ahead and pin! You’ll see how well those waves line up – almost like magic!

Our QAL Progress
We are making the Newport Sails quilt along with you! Each week we’ll chronicle our progress and tell you things we’ve learned along the way.
Jenifer’s Quilt
Sewing my blocks went really smoothly. I didn’t pin a thing (really!) and I only have one intersection that didn’t turn out. I ripped it out, redid it and voila! Perfection! Next up is quilting, binding, and label.
Trisch’s Quilt
Of course, Jenifer is done!
Mine is still in the box from carrying it back and forth between my house and Jenifer’s. A little know secret: because we make the videos at Jenifer’s house, she did most of the wave sewing (well, all of it) for me. I really have no excuse for why I am not done with my top. Other than, I was out of town speaking & teaching a workshop at a guild this past week. When I got back, I had to work on finishing a quilt that will be on the cover of one of our new fall patterns! Hopefully I’ll finish up this week. Tune in to Instagram on Thursday, I’ll show you where I am!
