Bohemian Born Quilt Along: Month 2

Welcome to Month 2 of the Bohemian Born Quilt Along! We’re so glad you’re here!

How did Month 1 go? We’ve seen a lot of beautiful rows online but we know there are many more of you who are quilting along but not sharing you blocks. Don’t be shy! We’d love to see your progress! To share your work, use the Instagram hashtag #BohoBornQAL or join our Facebook page – Everyday Stitches Quilt Alongs

October Mini Challenge
This month show us your sewing machine and tell us why you love her!

Have questions about the QAL? Look for the FAQs at the bottom of this post.

Month 2 Assignment

Row 2 is the first one with appliqué, but DON’T FEAR THE APPLIQUÉ! We have a great method with video tutorials to help you. This row is also the first with a Triangle Unit – lots to learn!

Row 2 instructions are found on page 17 of the Bohemian Born pattern.

Here’s what Row 2 entails:
1. Cutting (or gathering if you precut) the rectangles and squares.
2. Cutting the curves.
3. Piecing the Background/Arch units.
4. Piecing and trimming the blocks.
5. Appliqué the Circles.
6. Make the Triangle Units and sew them to the Small Blocks.
7. Assembling the row.

NOTE: Even though you made the curved blocks last month, it is a good idea to make a practice block with scrap fabric in this new size. This month uses the smaller templates, so it will be a little different and warrants practice.

Fabric Cutting

Supplies needed:
Row 2 Fabric
The Junior (Small) Template Set
Applique Supplies

The fabric is first cut into rectangles and squares, then the curves are cut using the Junior (Small) template set when we’re ready to sew.

1. Gather your precut fabric if you cut it all at once last month

OR

2. Cut what you need for Row 2:
Fabric 1
Fabric 4
Fabric 5
Fabric 6

If you choose your fabric row-by-row, for Row 2, you need:
Fabric 1 – 3″ x wof
Fabric 4 – 14″ x wof
Fabric 5 – 18″ x wof
Fabric 6 – 8″ x wof

The fabric numbers correspond to the numbers on the diagram on page 9 of your pattern. Cut your rectangles and squares according to the dimensions given in the first column under “Gather the Pre-Cut Fabric” on page 17.

Organization
Label everything carefully by using stickers or pinning a piece of paper on each stack with the information on it.

Making Row 2

Row 2 is made of 12 Small Blocks with Appliqué and 12 Small Triangle Units.

Step-by-step instructions to make the row are on page 17 of the pattern.

Each step takes you through detailed instructions with diagrams to make each section of the blocks. If you need additional help, we have video tutorials for every step. You can access those below and on our YouTube channel. You can subscribe to our channel while you’re there so you don’t miss any of our video tutorials.

Quilt Along FAQs

How do I get the monthly assignment? Right here on the blog! The blog post will go live on the first Monday of each month until Sept. 2025 with that month’s assignment. Either set a reminder to go to the blog, or you will get a reminder in our regular newsletter each first Monday with the link to get here. (Click here to sign up for our newsletter if you don’t already get it.)

How do I ask Trisch and Jenifer a question? The best way is on our Facebook group, Everyday Stitches Quilt Alongs. Chances are if you have a question, someone else has the same question so don’t be shy, ask there!

We also will do an Instagram Live and a Facebook Live each month. IG Live will be the first Thursday of the month after the assignment goes live and the FB Live will be two weeks later. You can ask questions there as well.

How do I connect with other quilters making the Boho quilt? Again, the Facebook group is the best place for this! Post your process shots, your finished blocks, anything you want to share! Everyone is supportive and kind. We know we are all at different stages in our quilting, so this is the place to get the advice of more experienced quilters!

Alternatively if you prefer Instagram, you can post your progress there. Use #BohoBornQAL and @everydaystitches so we can find you.

I’m just finding your Quilt Along. Where do I get the pattern and templates? Click here to purchase the pattern, and click here for the templates.
